Travel Wisconsin’s scenic rural roads to experience Frank Loyd Wright’s amazing architecture along the Heritage Trail.
Our first stop will be a visit to the Taliesin Estate. You will get is an intimate look at the 70-year career of one of America’s greatest architects. Constructed of natural materials and designed to be a part of the surrounding landscape – these buildings are the most personal of Wright’s masterpieces. His cherished community lifestyle and groundbreaking philosophies were founded in the hills of this Driftless Area valley. Constantly inspired by nature, Wright’s endless ideas are apparent in the experimental, organic architecture present in the buildings. We will be taking the introductory tour – An overview of Wright’s life and architectural principles, this tour views the interiors of his private residence and personal studio. Key features are the famed living room and art collection. A buffet style lunch at the preservation will be served after the tour.

Then on to Madison to tour Monona Terrace. Frank Lloyd Wright originally proposed a design for Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in 1938. His architectural vision for the City of Madison—a curvilinear gathering place linking the shore of Lake Monona to the State Capitol—finally realized in 1997. A vision 59 years in the making. Take a 45-minute guided tour to learn about the storied history of Monona Terrace, the impact of the architecture, and its influence on downtown Madison.

We will finish the day with a stop at Wingspread – SC Johnson Global Headquarters. Here we will tour the iconic, prairie-style home that Frank Lloyd Wright designed which highlights remarkable features such as the home’s disappearing dining table, its teepee-inspired clerestory ceiling in the great room and the cantilevered “Romeo and Juliet” balcony bedroom.
